six days of camping in the woods - journal excerpts

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

I brought Tom Brown Jr.’s Field Guide to Nature Observation and Tracking with me, and it was the perfect companion.

I write by moonlight. (Hope the ink in my pens doesn’t freeze - another advantage of pencils.) So different from last night - a mattress in a warm house with a warm body […]

Saturday evening

Monday, April 17th, 2006

We’re in the middle of a middle-american dream here at Finger Lakes S.P., Missouri. Everyone here has at least two of the following: an RV, a huge multi-room tent, an ATV, or a dirt bike. The days are loud here with the rumble of bikes and the early drunken laughter of adults who’ve started the […]

Saturday morning

Monday, April 17th, 2006

It’s such a strange and overwhelming feeling to sit in a perfect balance of emotions, bliss and desire. I would never think of myself to someone who would describe a breeze as delicious, but I guess that’s because I hadn’t met it yet. There I was in our tent awaken by a single bird’s song […]

We’re on our way to Dancing Rabbit Community in Missouri, which was approximately 1400 miles from where we were about two days ago in Flagstaff, AZ. Today we traveled about 450 miles, arriving here at Meade Lake State Park in Kansas.
Our tent […]

Here are a couple old journal entries that I wrote in my offline journal about a month ago. I wanted to share them with you guys:

Things move fast in times like this. We have one regret so far and it’s that we have so little time to write, reflect and post. Even our postcard […]

Hello from the campfire

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Hey all. We had a wicked awesome time camping outside of Vancouver. Woke up the first day with our tent covered in snow. The weather improved from there. More to come. For now, here’s a short campfire message (13.6 MB, 39sec) for you.
